The Constituent Body RugbySafe Manager
RugbySafe is the RFU’s overarching player safety and wellbeing programme, putting player welfare at the heart of the game and covering how the game should be organised and managed to provide a safe and enjoyable playing environment. Within RugbySafe there are a number of different initiatives and programmes, all of which play a part in improving and developing awareness of player welfare. Information about all of the different aspects of Rugbysafe can be found via the Toolkits or by contacting our Rugbysafe Manager at This email address is being protected from spambots. Advice on all of the above can be found on the buttons above. The Keep Your Boots On Website is easy to access and use. It also contains links to Rugbysafe Newsletters, webinars and You Tube videos for refresher training on topics such as First Aid and Defibrillator use.
First Aid Training:
As pitch side first aid provision is mandatory at all training and matches there is a continual need for suitable training courses. Cumbria has three providers who can deliver the Emergency First Aid in Rugby Union (EFARU) courses. Several of these have been run across the county over the last couple of years, if you would like to host a course at your club please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or one of the providers directly, they are:
Claire Humphrey (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), Trish Berry (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and Phil Holliday (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
Courses need a minimum of 8 attendees with a maximum of 12. They can be a closed course for the sole attendance of your club members or you can open it to other clubs to help boost numbers. There are several vouchers available for free places on these courses with more to come towards the start of next season. Please contact the Rugbysafe Manager about these.
Annual GMS Record:
The RugbySafe & Player Welfare section on the RFU Game Management System (GMS) must kept up to date and completed annually pre-season. The information required includes number of first aiders, qualifications and equipment in addition to an annual first aid Risk Assessment and Medical Emergency Action Plan (MEAP) which are uploaded onto GMS. It is recommended that Club RugbySafe Leads are given Level 2 or 4 permissions to access GMS to enable completion of the RugbySafe & Player Welfare section, which can be found in a club’s GMS profile under ‘Organisational Details’.
